Grime artist who raped four women has jail sentence increased – The Guardian

After a hearing on Friday 3 senior judges concluded the sentence was “unduly lax” and increased it to 35 years– with a 30-year jail term and five years extended licence.Lady Justice Macur, sitting with 2 other judges, stated the original sentence did not show the reality that Anokye had actually committed multiple offences of rape against 4 different victims. The court refused an attempt by Anokye to appeal versus the length of his original sentence.His sentence was referred to the court by the Attorney Generals Office (AGO) under the unduly lenient sentencing scheme.Speaking after the judgment, the lawyer general, Michael Ellis QC, said: “Anokyes criminal offenses were really shocking. The court of appeals decision to increase his sentence acknowledges the seriousness of the abuse he caused upon his victims and the risk he positions to the public.”
The musician, who was part of the collective Boy Better Know, admitted in court that he liked to “terrorise” ladies but declared they constantly consented to his “rape video game”. Giving proof, Anokye informed the court he had dacryphilia– a sexual arousal from tears or sobbing.

A man who held four females against their will and repeatedly raped them has had his sentence increased by the court of appeal.Victims of Andy Anokye, 33, who performed as a grime artist under the stage name Solo 45, informed how he beat and threatened them with weapons, held a cloth with bleach over their faces and waterboarded them, recording much of the abuse on his mobile phone.Anokye was founded guilty of 30 charges at Bristol crown court in 2015 and handed a 29-year extended sentence, made up of a 24-year jail term and an extended licence period of 5 years.

The court declined an attempt by Anokye to appeal versus the length of his initial sentence.His sentence was referred to the court by the Attorney Generals Office (AGO) under the unduly lax sentencing scheme.Speaking after the judgment, the solicitor general, Michael Ellis QC, stated: “Anokyes crimes were truly stunning. The court of appeals choice to increase his sentence identifies the seriousness of the abuse he caused upon his victims and the danger he presents to the public.”
