Sir Michael Parkinson, 84, needed to stop briefly for a minute and compose himself when Piers Morgan interviewed him for his Life Stories program in 2019. The TV veteran became visibly psychological as the Great Morning Britain host quizzed him on his father, Jack Parkinsons, death that had actually happened in 1975, following a battle with lung illness pneumoconiosis– which is triggered by long-lasting retention of dust.
Even Sir Michaels son Michael Jr was surprised to see his papa in tears on nationwide TELEVISION.
He told Good Morning Britain: “I was shocked by the strength of the feeling and Ive dealt with him for a long time.
” Tears are not far away from him. I knew (his fathers death) was a really tough subject for him to deal with.”.
Like Father, Like Son: A Family Story by Michael Parkinson and Mike Parkinson is available now (Hodder & & Stoughton, Hardback, ₤ 20).
Following his look, Michael was inspired to compose his latest book offering Like Father, Like Son.
Michael explained: “I broke down almost 40 years later on over my daddys death, I thought I had actually kept that away, I thought I had got rid of that grief, but I hadnt.”.
The book was co-written with the youngest of Sir Michaels 3 kids, Michael Parkinson Jr, and explores household characteristics.
Michael continued: ” It got me thinking … what was it about this man that made him unforgettable in my life?”.
