It seems Im not the only one seeing this bug, according to this MacRumors short article. Others have shared comparable concerns with M1-equipped MacBook Airs, Pros, and Minis on MacRumors online forums, Reddit (in a couple of threads), and Apples assistance forums. And one user on MacRumors said theyve seen the bug on their 16-inch MacBook Pro, which has an Intel chip, so perhaps this is an issue with macOS Big Sur.
Every once in a while, for reasons that I have not been able to figure out, a screensaver will suddenly take over the entire computer– in spite of the fact that I never ever utilize a screensaver. And frustratingly, the screensaver renders my laptop computer unusable up until I entirely close the screen and reopen it.
Heres a video of the bug, shared by MacRumors forum member dawideksl:
Apple didnt immediately respond to an ask for comment.
Many individuals reporting the problem in this Reddit thread state they have multiple accounts on the same computer. And for what its worth, Ive established 2 accounts on my MacBook Air. One user on Apples support online forums handicapped Fast User Switching and said they werent seeing the screensaver, so perhaps thats a workaround up until Apple addresses the bug.
