Gogglebox viewers surprised after discovering Pete and Sophie have two very famous relatives – Hull Live

Many Gogglebox fans have been left surprised after discovering two of the show’s stars are related to two very famous comedians.

Channel 4’s Pete and Sophie Sandiford are among the most popular participants on the TV show and are a regular hit with viewers, with their comical reactions often going viral.

But it would seem the siblings, who live in Blackpool, are not the only famous members of their family.

The brother and sister duo are the great-niece and great-nephew of Chuckle Brothers stars Paul and Barry, BirminghamLive reports.

A throwback image on Pete and Sophie’s Instagram account shows the Chuckle Brother legends holding them when they were kids.

Unsurprisingly, fans and followers commented on the post, with many viewers surprised to find out the family link.

One follower wrote: “So surprised that you were related but so amazed! Now know where you and Soph get your comical side from now lad he would be so proud of yous! May he rest in peace.”

A second commented: “Everything makes sense now #legends”

Another said: “Wow I was thinking you look Familiar ever since I’ve watched gogglebox since you been on it I’ve always said to me self he looks like someone but I can’t seem to think though now I know!”

Paul is of course well known for starring in kids’ TV show Chucklevision with his late brother from 1987 to 2009.

Barry sadly died in 2018 following a battle with cancer.

After his passing, Sophie paid tribute to him on social media, writing: “A truly lovely and funny man to be around. You filled millions of childhoods with laughter and entertainment including mine and Peters.”

Sophie – who last year lost her job when Debenhams collapsed into administration – continued, writing: “You will be sadly missed by many. Rest in peace Uncle Barry. Lots of love from me, to you.”

The pair were also photographed at Barry’s funeral, as they attended to pay their respects to the iconic comedy star.

Another follower of Paul told him: “Can so see Barry in Pete. Now I know where he gets his comic side from. May Barry’s legend live on in Pete.”

Paul routinely shows throwback images of the pair, and captioned one last year: “This day 2018 with my great niece and nephew @PeteandSophie #Gogglebox

Channel 4 ‘s Gogglebox will be off our screens until next month, unfortunately, as the show waits to return for its first run of 2021 following a break for the winter.

The sofa favourite will air once more on Channel 4 in February.
