Mira Furlan has died at the age of 65.
The actress, who was best known for her roles in Babylon 5 and Lost, passed away on Thursday, her official Twitter account confirmed.
No cause of death has yet been given but Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski shared that Mira had been in ill health before she died.
The tweet from her account shared the date of her birth and the date of her death, along with a heart-wrenching quote from Furlan.
It read: “‘I look at the stars. It’s a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That’s where I’ll be going soon…. I am not afraid.”
The quote concluded: “Let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me.
“And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars.
“Breathe in. Breathe out. That’s all.”
Straczynski retweeted the post as he paid his own tribute to the star.
He said: “It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her.
“But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe.”
Straczynski shared that Mira had been in poor health lately but had hoped she would improve.
He said: “We’ve known for some time now that Mira’s health was failing.
“I’m not sure this is the right time or place to discuss the sheer randomness of what happened… and have all been dreading this day.
“We kept hoping that she would improve.
“In a group email sent to the cast a while back, I heard that she might be improving.”
He added: “Mira was a good and kind woman, a stunningly talented performer, and a friend to everyone in the cast and crew of Babylon 5 and we are all devastated by the news.
“The cast members with whom she was especially close since the show’s end will need room to process this moment, so please be gentle if they are unresponsive for a time.
“We have been down this road too often, and it only gets harder.”
Mira was born and raised in the former Yugoslavia.
She attended the Academy for Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, where she also took language classes, becoming fluent in English, German, and French.
Mira emigrated to the U.S. in 1991.
She was cast as Delenn in Babylon 5 two years later and remained on the show for five seasons until it ended in 1998.
Mira played Danielle Rousseau in Lost and appeared in 25 episodes between 2004 and 2010.
Her other TV credits included NCIS, Just Add Magic and Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
She is survived by her husband, the Serbian filmmaker Goran Gajić and and their son, Marko Lav Gajić.
Rest in peace.
