Tendring remains the worst affected area in the county with the highest coronavirus infection rate.
For nearly a week, the local authority – which includes towns like Clacton-on-Sea and Frinton-on-Sea – has recorded the highest rates in Essex.
This is despite the area recording a significant decrease in cases from 981.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to January 11, compared to today’s rate of 781.2 cases per 100,000 in the seven days up to January 18.
In those seven days, 1,145 positive cases of coronavirus were recorded.
Every Essex town has recorded dropping infection rates over the past week – a hugely positive sign that lockdown is beginning to take affect in our communities.
However the death rate remains devastatingly high after it was revealed that a quarter of all the people who died from Covid-19 in Essex hospital trusts since the start of the pandemic, died in January alone.
At the other end of the scale, Brentwood has recorded the lowest coronavirus infection rate with 367.4 cases per 100,000 in the seven days up to January 18.
This is a huge drop from just one month ago when Brentwood became the Covid capital with the highest infection rate in England.
The figures, for the seven days to January 18, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.
