Married At First Sight couple Steph and Jonathan are still married – even though they split over two years ago.
The pair appeared on the 2019 series and tied the knot as part of the Channel 4 show but on their honeymoon they decided to end their romance – as they were incompatible.
And even though they agreed that they did not have a romantic connection they are still legally married which has become “a nightmare” for Steph as “Jonathan is refusing to sign divorce papers,” a source has told The Sun.
The insider close to Steph shared: “Now, it’s turned into a nightmare because he’s refusing to end the marriage. It’s almost like he can’t deal with the fact that it didn’t work out, and now Steph’s stuck in the marriage and can’t move forward.”
They also added that Steph wants to “wants to forget about the whole thing and move on” but Jonathon always sends her “creepy cards” for Christmas and her birthday – which led to her asking the production company to ask him to stop.
They continued: “She felt she got an unfair edit on the show, and now she’s stuck in a marriage she regrets. It’s awful for her. C4 have been as helpful as they can be, but if Jonathan refuses to sign the papers, there’s not much they can do about it.”
The Mirror has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
In April 2019, Steph and Jonathan confirmed they were ending their marriage just weeks on from their arranged wedding ceremony on the finale of Married At First Sight.
Scenes showed Steph and Jonathan struggling to form a connection.
Jonathan remained “conflicted” over whether he wanted to stay with Steph or not but she quickly realised it wasn’t for her.
Jonathan then revealed he was struggling to see a way of making it work and went on to give Steph annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas.
She was horrified by the move despite her own reservations after they had agreed to make any decisions about their marriage together.
Jonathan later confessed he regretted his decision, and actually seemed pretty keen to give things another go.
Steph claimed he had been sending her messages encouraging her to give them two more weeks, believing their marriage could last.
But they finally agreed together when speaking with a sex and relationship expert that they would go their separate ways.
Taking off their rings and sharing out their wedding gifts, the pair said their goodbyes for good.
At the end of the show it was revealed they were going ahead with divorce proceedings, before continuing their lives separately.
