The death of MTV star Charlie Balducci has been determined as a drug overdose, six months after he was found unresponsive at his New York home.

Balducci, best known for his appearances in US docuseries True Life, was found in bed by paramedics called to his Staten Island property in July. The 44-year old was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The New York City Medical Examiner’s office has since confirmed his death was caused by ‘acute intoxication’ from a cocktail of prescription drugs, TMZ reports.

It’s understood that Balducci’s had traces of Oxycodone, and Hydrocodone, both addictive opioid painkillers, and Alprazolam, an anti-anxiety drug commonly known as Xanax, were in his system at the time of his passing. 

His death has been ruled accidental. 

The reality star was married to wife Sabrina for over a decade, although they were divorced at the time of his death. The couple shared two sons together, Louis, 19, and CJ, 17.

Balducci’s mother previously told TMZ his death was unexpected as he was not exhibiting any signs of sickness, with his last words to her about how happy he was to have his teenage sons. 

MTV fans may best remember Charlie from the 2002 True Life docuseries episode I’m Getting Married, which saw him go on an expletive-laden rampage at his limo driver, who was two hours late picking him up for his wedding. 

MTV had followed Charlie and Sabrina for four months before capturing his meltdown as he waited for the driver to show.

In addition to his MTV fame, Charlie was an actor and founder of the nonprofit organization the NYC Arts Cypher, a youth-oriented program which promotes positive values through arts and entertainment programs.

‘Charles Balducci is proud to be a Staten Islander,’ his bio on the NYC Arts Cypher website reads. 

‘Born in NYC, but raised on the Island Charles Balducci has been a pioneer in the arts and entertainment movement to establish Staten Island as a player in the arts and entertainment industry.’
