They have one of the most successful marriages in showbiz after they tied the knot in 1986.
But it’s not as smooth sailing as it appears.
Richard shed a rare light on the personal side of their high-profile marriage in a new candid interview.
The telly personality said the famous couple “instinctively” know when the other person needs space and vice versa.
Admittedly the TV presenter said there will be “warning signs” which he said many older married couples would experience first hand in their own marriages.
He told The Metro : “We’ve been married a long time so without actually saying, ‘Oh, you’re getting on my nerves, I need space,’ we almost know instinctively.
“You start to see the warning signs. I think that’s probably true of a lot of older married couples.”
Richard and Judy have brought up their two now grown up children Jack and Chloe together.
They have made quite a success of their marriage while working together on TV and with their famous book club.
Frequently the couple lend an ear to their daughter Chloe when she’s having rows with her husband James.
However, it seems Judy always sides with her husband James but Richard tends to be more diplomatic.
Chloe previously told new! magazine : “If I call my dad and James and I have had an argument, he will counsel me through it.
“One of my biggest downfalls as a person is I think I find it hard to let things go and move on.
“So my dad will always tell me, ‘Let it go Chloe this is ridiculous.’ He’ll put my in my place. But then at the same time, if he thinks James has done something wrong, he’ll say: ‘Stand your ground.'”
