Michelle Heaton’s husband has praised her “strength” as he broke his silence on her admission to rehab.
The 41-year-old former Liberty X star is seeking professional help with a battle with alcohol, which has been heightened by a series of serious medical issues that have affected her mental health.
Her husband, Hugh Hanley, has shared a sweet tribute to Michelle, saying that she is doing their family “proud” with her decision.
He posted a black and white photo of Michelle at the beach along with the caption: “Through sickness and in health.
“No one should ever suffer in silence but it takes real strength to speak up and do something about it … @wonderwomanshel you are doing your family proud.”
Michelle, who is the mother of their two children – Faith, nine, and AJ, seven – reportedly checked herself into rehab last Wednesday.
It is thought that the singer has had difficulties with the effects of a hysterectomy in 2012 and a double mastectomy in 2015 which she had after it was revealed she had a high risk of cancer.
Before lockdown made it hard for Michelle’s wellbeing, she had been through an early menopause and a source said that she “turned to alcohol as a crutch as she couldn’t cope with the effects of her operations.”
The source told The Sun that Michelle had found the operations and early menopause difficult to cope with as it had meant she had “lost so much of what made her a woman.”
The source added that Michelle was “just about coping when lockdown hit last year” but the recent lockdown saw her “hit rock bottom” as she was “unable to distract herself” as she stayed at home.
The death of her friend Nikki Grahame earlier this month have also hit Michelle hard.
Michelle has previously discussed her chances of getting cancer, revealing that having a mutated BRCA2 gene had led to her having an 80 per cent chance of getting breast cancer, as well as a 30 per cent chance of developing ovarian cancer.

After her hysterectomy, Michelle had an early menopause, which she admits put a strain on her marriage.
Speaking about it, Michelle said: “With us being so young and going through it and with the kids being so young as well, I don’t have that group of women around me who are going through it at the same time. So, it’s really hard.”
Husband Hugh added: “Michelle really struggles to get hold of herself. She’s lost a bit of herself.”
